The two audio transformers are Oxford Electrical Products A262A2E with mu-metal screening cans A262CAN (see www.oep.co.uk). Farnell/Newark part numbers are 149155 & 149157. |
Back view. The front and rear panels are made of single-sided pc board. The copper is removed by heating with a soldering iron, leaving only the fibre glass substrate. |
The WinKey processor is a WK-IC (PIC 12F683) from www.k1el.com |

The USB to dual serial adaptor is a USB-DS from www.roalan.com This model was chosen because the software driver supports all the RS232 control lines. |
In order to fit it into the box the plastic case and the dual 9-pin D-type connector were removed. 6-way connectors were then wired to the board as shown. |
The board with the USB adaptor removed. The gap in the ground plane is the isolation barrier between the Radio ground and the PC ground. Four optocouplers physically straddle the gap. |
The lower right L-shaped ground is the PC-ground for the USB interface and the WinKey CW keyer. The upper and left hand side is the Radio ground for the audio amplifier, CAT and audio transformers. |
The wiring underneath the board. The board is a home-made 0.1" matrix prototyping board, (blob-board). |

Detail showing some of the surface mount components and wire bridges. This section is under the audio amplifier. |
The panel artworks are drawn using Visio. The 1:1 scale colour printouts are plastic-laminated and stuck onto the fibre-glass panels with 3M Spray Mount adhesive. |
